Hey everyone – I’m back!
It’s been a minute, but I’ve spent the time thinking, learning, and growing. Sometimes stepping back is part of the process. Growth isn’t just about always moving forward; it’s also about pausing and reflecting.
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about choice—how every small decision we make shapes our personal “multiverse.” Yep, just like the movies! Whenever you say “yes” or “no,” you create a new version of your future. But what happens if we lean into that? What if we embrace risk, skill diversity, and even chaos?
The Butterfly Effect of Choices
One of my favourite movies is Yes Man, starring Jim Carrey. The main character, Carl, lives a life of constant “no” until he decides to say “yes” to every opportunity. At first, it’s hilarious and fun, but then something shifts. His world expands.
For me, saying yes sometimes can unlock unexpected paths, relationships, and growth. While not all the time (as the film notes can be consequential), saying yes to those small choices can create ripple effects in life. I often find myself asking: what could happen if I say yes instead of no? Hopefully, you’ll consider the same when the next opportunity comes your way.
Jack of All Trades vs. Master of One
Today's world moves at a rapid pace. Many of us find it incredibly challenging to keep up at times. It seems the best skill you could offer is your flexibility and range.
You’ve probably heard the saying: “Jack of all trades, master of none.” But the full quote? “Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than master of one.”
Enter the T-shaped employee model:
The "T" vertical line represents deep expertise in a specific area, while the horizontal bar signifies broad skills across disciplines like communication, digital tools, and leadership.
Our true value goes beyond just skills; it lies in our ability to connect ideas and adapt. Throughout my journey as an educator, I see my diverse experiences as interconnected universes that enhance the value I can offer others.
Excelling in one area while remaining curious about others is your superpower.

Creating Your Multiverse
You’re at the centre of it all. You’ve made choices you regret. We all have. But the beauty of your multiverse is this: you’re still the author.
I think the Spider-Man pointing meme nails this idea. Three versions of you—maybe one that took the risk, one that played it safe, and one that failed fast—are all staring at each other. And they’re all…you. You’re not stuck. You’re evolving. While we may not have the lore and power of our friendly neighbourhood hero, we can understand three things:
Learn from your alternate paths, don’t live in them.
Every version of you still has value.
The next “you” is shaped by what you choose now.
Embracing Change and Growth
Change can be daunting. It often feels like stepping into the unknown. But think about it: every great adventure begins with a single step. Embracing change opens doors to new experiences. It allows us to grow in ways we never imagined.
Have you ever tried something new, only to discover a hidden talent? Maybe you took a cooking class and found you have a knack for baking. Or perhaps you started painting and uncovered a passion for art. These moments remind us that we are capable of more than we think.
The Power of Reflection
Reflection is a powerful tool. It allows us to pause and consider our choices. When was the last time you took a moment to reflect on your journey? I find that even a few minutes of quiet contemplation can provide clarity. It helps me understand my motivations and aspirations.
Consider keeping a journal. Writing down your thoughts can illuminate patterns in your decision-making. It can also serve as a reminder of how far you’ve come. Plus, it’s a great way to celebrate your victories, no matter how small!
Final Thoughts
Your multiverse isn’t fiction—it’s your life. Every step forward (or sideways, or back) creates a new chapter. So go ahead: try the thing, take the chance, learn the skill.
Because who knows? The “you” five choices from now might be thanking you.
Take care of yourselves, everyone! :)
